Event Highlights
Kickoff to World Cup
We gained unique insight on the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar, the preparations and preserving its legacy.
Below are some highlights from the session.
Delivering the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar
With the World Cup five months away, H.E. Hassan Al-Thawadi, Secretary General at Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, State of Qatar, said that Qatar welcomes the chance to dispel misconceptions. He spoke about preventing price gouging, labor reform and the business community’s multi-million dollar commitment to reimburse worker recruitment fees, stating “This is not a spotlight initiative.”
“This will be a cultural exchange. We are hoping to build bonds that will last and can be built upon for the future,” Al-Thawadi said.
Countdown to the Greatest Show on Earth
Five months away from the World Cup, Gianni Infantino, President, FIFA, spoke to the experience and smoothing out issues in the run up to such an impactful event, with half the world’s population expected to tune in.
One of his first tasks when taking on the FIFA lead in 2016 was to travel to Qatar to address human rights and labor issues. There have been a lot of changes and fine-tuning yet to be done. “You have to realize it took hundreds of years in Europe to reach social equality. It was done in Qatar in just a few years,” Infantino said.
